Sarah Adams. I was browsing through the shelves of a lovely independent bookshop in Penzance today. I’m always looking for ideas, which can often come from the most unusual literary sources but on this occasion my eye was caught by a book called ‘Sea View’, written by Andrew Lambirth. She lives and paints on the North Cornish coast and paints dramatic cavescapes as I will call them. She works up from pencil studies to small-scale paintings and then on to the final big one. She renders with intense detail the texture and colours of the geological formations and encompasses the quintessential nature of the Cornish North coast colour palette in her stunning images. Though I wouldn’t dare to compare myself to her I find that I ‘see’ these coastal locations in similar ways to her. You can find her here.
